Program
Classical Japanese dance
Founded in 1972 by Michiyo Hata with the theme of “Tradition and Creation” and the wish to make Japanese dance, an important cultural asset, accessible to all, Kikunokai members choreographed the dance scenes in Akira Kurosawa’s 1990 film “Dreams,” which was well received worldwide.
In addition to energetically performing throughout Japan, Kikunokai has performed in 108 cities in 66 countries for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Agency for Cultural Affairs, and received an award from the Minister of Foreign Affairs for its achievements.
He has also received numerous other awards, including the Art Festival Excellence Award, the Pola Award for Traditional Culture, and the Matsuo Performing Arts Award.
He has established 24 dance schools in Japan and also in the Republic of Peru.
